At KidzVil Pediatric Dentistry, we use digital X-rays, which involve less radiation than conventional X-rays, to help us provide accurate diagnoses for our patients.
We follow the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry guidelines for recommending X-rays. We won’t over-expose your child, and we only recommend X-rays when they’re required to make a diagnosis. X-rays help us look inside your child’s teeth for problems that aren’t visible to the naked eye, and we can often diagnose cavities much more quickly with an X-ray. They’re also helpful for finding gum or teeth problems that need to be addressed, or for monitoring space for permanent teeth with space maintainers when necessary.
During your child’s visit, we’ll also talk about good home care. We believe what you do at home really affects your child’s teeth, so we’ll point out any areas you should focus on so your child can maintain a healthy smile.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are digital X-rays safe for children?
Yes, digital X-rays use significantly less radiation than traditional X-rays, and we only recommend them when necessary to make an accurate diagnosis.
How often will my child need dental X-rays?
We follow American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry guidelines, recommending X-rays only when needed based on your child’s individual oral health and risk factors.
What can X-rays detect that a visual exam can’t?
X-rays allow us to see inside the teeth and below the gumline, helping us detect cavities, infections, and developing issues that aren’t visible during a standard exam.
Do X-rays help with treatment planning?
Yes, X-rays give us a clearer picture of your child’s teeth and jaw development, helping us plan appropriate treatment, including orthodontic care if needed.
Will my child need X-rays at every visit?
Not necessarily. We only recommend X-rays as often as needed to properly monitor your child’s dental health, following established pediatric guidelines.
